Joel Parker8 Whitney (George7, Joseph6, Benjamin5, James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of George7 and Sophia (Greenwood) Whitney, was born 27 Jun 1835 (said 1834 by Pierce), Gardner, MA, and died 17 Jan 1913, Del Monte, CA.

He married firstly, 30 Jun 1858, West Roxbury, MA, Frances Keith, daughter of Cardinal [sic] and Deborah (-----) Keith.[1] She was born about 1832, Roxbury, MA, and died 27 Jun 1871, Somerville, MA, aged 39 years, of brain disease, exhaustion, daughter of William and Sarah C. (-----) Keith [sic].[2] Her birth record has not been found.

He married secondly, 20 Dec 1881, Sacramento, CA, Lucy Ann Chadwick. She was born 15 Oct 1847, England, and died 1926.

On 5 May 1873, he registered as a voter, when he was recorded as a merchant, aged 37, born MA, living at 322 Turk St., San Francisco, San Francisco Co., CA. On 6 Jul 1886, he registered as a voter, when he was recorded as aged 50, born MA, living at Lincoln, Placer Co., CA. He was still on the roll in 1888.

On 1 Aug 1887, he and his family were on a passenger list for the ship "Umbria", from Liverpool, England, to New York, NY.
