John3 Whitney (Jonathan2, John1), son of Jonathan2 and Lydia (Jones) Whitney,[1] was born 27 Jun 1662, Watertown, MA,[2] and died before 27 Feb 1731, Framingham, MA, when administration on his estate was granted.[3]

He married firstly, 10 Apr 1688, Watertown, MA, Mary Hapgood,[4] daughter of Shadrach and Elizabeth (Treadway) Hapgood.[5] She was born 2 Nov 1667, Sudbury, MA,[6] and died 13 Jan 1692[/3], Sherborn, MA.[7]

He married secondly, about 1694, Sarah Haven, daughter of Richard and Susanna (-----) Haven.[8] She was born 4 Jun 1655, Lynn, MA,[9] and died 23 Apr 1718, Framingham, MA.[10]

He married thirdly, 10 Nov 1718, Sherborn, MA, Martha (How) Walker, [11] daughter of Samuel and Martha (Bent) How.[12] She was born 9 Oct 1669, Sudbury, MA,[13] and died 14 Nov 1721, Framingham, MA.[14] She had married firstly, 7 Dec 1687, Sudbury, MA, Thomas Walker,[15] who died 25 Oct 1717, Framingham, MA.[16]

On 21 Dec 1702, he was listed as a son in the will of his father.[17]

On 4 Feb 1713/4, the will of his brother Benjamin3 Whitney of Sherborn mentions, "cousin James Whittne, son of my brother John Whittne and Mary his wife", and also "Marcy and Elizabeth Whitne, daughters of John Whittne my brother."[18]

On 1 Jun 1726, John Whitney gave a bond to son James Whitney.[19]

On 27 Feb 1731, administration on the estate of John Whitney, late of Framingham, husbandman, was granted to his son James Whitney of said town, with Richard Haven of Framingham, husbandman, and Richard Sanger of Sherborn, blacksmith, sureties. On 5 Apr 1732, his inventory was taken by Benja. Whiteny, Hezekiah Rice, and William Ballard, amounting to £619 14s. 7d. On 22 May 1732, the inventory was exhibited by James Whitney, administrator. On 5 Sep 1733, an administration account presented, dated 22 May 1732. On 24 Mar 1734/5, Capt. John Gleason, Dea. John Adams, Ens. Micah Stone, Mr. James Mellen, all of Framingham, and Mr. Benjamin Muzzey of Sherborn were appointed a committee to apprize the Real Estate of the deceased and distribute it. On 22 May 1735, inventory of real estate was taken, mentioning children James Whitney, Elizabeth wife of Jonathan Willard, Mary wife of Danll. Moore, Lydia wife of Richard Haven, and Hannah wife of Zekel Rice. On 20 Nov 1735, the real estate was settled on son James Whitney, he to pay to sister Elizabeth Willard's heirs (Mary and Abigail, of age, and Daniel, Jonathan, John, Josiah, and Benjamin Willard, minors); sister Mary Moor; sister Lydia Haven; and sister Hannah Rice[20]

i. Mary4 Whitney, b. 27 Mar 1689;[21] m. Daniel Moore.
ii. Elizabeth Whitney, b. 19 Jan 1690;[22] m. Jonathan Willard.
iii. James Whitney, b. 28 Dec 1692;[23] m.(1) Martha Rice; m.(2) Elizabeth (Holbrook) Twitchell.

Children of John3 and Sarah (Haven) Whitney, all born in Sherborn, MA:

i. Lydia4 Whitney, b. 18 Apr 1695;[24] m. Richard Haven.
ii. Hannah Whitney, b. 27 Sep 1697;[25] m. Ezekiel Rice.

John3 and Martha (How)(Walker) Whitney had no children.
