John4 Whitney (Joseph3, John2, John1), son of Joseph3 and Martha (Beach) Whitney, was born 29 Jul 1680 at Watertown, MA,[1] baptized 16 Jan 1686/7 at Watertown, MA,[2] and "Mr." died 11 Nov 1760 at Weston, MA.[3]

He married, 22 Feb 1703/4, Watertown, MA, Sarah Cutting,[4] daughter of Zechariah, Sr., and Sarah (-----) Cutting. She was born 1675, Watertown, MA, and died 10 Jul 1753, Weston, MA.[5]

Marriage intentions were published, 28 Sep 1754, Weston, MA, for him and Beriah (Bemis)(Child) Peirce.[6] He "of Weston" married secondly, 28 Nov 1754, Weston, MA, Beriah (Bemis)(Child) Peirce "of Waltham",[7] daughter of John and Mary (Harrington) Bemis, as her third husband. She was born 23 Jun 1681, Watertown, MA, and died 4 Nov 1768, Waltham, MA, "formerly wife of Daniel Child", in 88th year.[8]

She had married firstly, 10 Feb 1701/2, Watertown, MA, Daniel Child, son of John and Mary (Warren) Child.

She had married secondly, 12 Aug 1736, Watertown, MA, Joseph Peirce, son of Joseph and Martha (-----) Peirce, as his, third wife.

He was admitted to the Weston church 1 Jul 1749.[9] Sarah Whitney, wife of John, was admitted to church membership in Weston 30 May 1742.[10]

He left a will dated 17 Nov 1749, Weston, MA; John Whitney of Weston; wife Sarah; son Joseph (executor), all land in Weston and Waltham, all cattle, and utensils of husbandry; son Isaac, £80; son Zachry., £70; son John, £70; son Abrahm., £70; witnesses John Warren, Elisha Warren, Ebenr. Cutler.

On 15 Dec 1760, Weston, MA, his will was proved. On 15 Dec 1760, Weston, MA, the executors bond was posted by Joseph Whitney, husbandman, with John Warren, gentleman, of Weston, surety.

She left a will on 11 Jul 1755 at Weston, MA; will of Beriah Whitney of Weston; "I having before marriage to my present husband Mr. John Whitney made an agreement with each other to have the Disposition of our Estates separate ..."; estate to be divided among her children and the children of her deceased daughter Sarah Fisk, to wit: Daniel Child; David Child; John Child; Samuel Child; Elisha Child; Susanna Child; Elizth. Stearns; Mary Whitney; Joshua Child; granddaughter Sarah Mixer; grandson Danll. Fisk, under 21; granddaughter Beulah Fisk, under 21; witnesses Ebenr. Cutler, Jonas Cutler, Abijah Child.

On 4 Nov 1768, Weston, MA, Bethia's inventory was taken by Capt. Ebenezer Cutler, Capt. Bradyll Smith, and Mr. Jacob Biglow. On 13 Dec 1768, Weston, MA, her will was proved. On 31 Mar 1769, Weston, MA, an agreement of heirs agreeing to the executor's account was signed by David, John, Joshua, Samuel, and Susanna Child, Isaac Stearns, Joseph Whitney, and David Fisk. On 18 Apr 1769, Weston, MA, her inventory was exhibited and the executor's account presented.

There is confusion about which John Whitney married Beriah (Bemis)(Child) Peirce. Since she was born in 1681, the John Whitney born in 1680 seems most appropriate in age.

Pierce says the following:[11]

He was one of the original grantees of land at Paris, Me., in 1735. His will is dated Nov. 17, 1749, proved Dec. 15, 1760; owned property in Weston and Waltham.
