John4 Whitney (Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of Thomas3 and Elizabeth (Lawrence) Whitney, was born 13 May 1684 Stow, MA,[1] and his will was proved 3 Nov 1747, Stow, MA.[2]

He "of Stow" married, 2 Mar 1709/10, Watertown, MA, Elizabeth Barnard "of Watertown",[3] daughter of John and Sarah (Cutting) Barnard. She was born 29 Oct 1684, Watertown, MA, and died between 8 May 1756, when her will was dated, and 15 Jul 1757, when it was probated.

He lived at Bolton, Stow, and Lancaster, MA.

He left a will dated 3 Sep 1747, Stow, MA; wife Elizabeth; daughter Elizabeth Sawyer; daughter Sarah.

Pierce says the following:[4]

When the grant of the township of Bolton was made it was "ordered that Mr. John Whitney, a principal inhabitant of a new town, lately erected out of the town of Lancaster, in the county of Worcester, be and hereby is fully authorized and empowered to assemble the freeholders and other qualified voters there, as soon as may be, in some convenient place in said town, in order for their choosing a town clerk and all other town officers, to stand till the anniversary meeting of said town in March next." 1738. Her will is dated May 8, 1756, and was probated July 15, 1757.

i. Elizabeth5 Whitney, b. circa 1707, Stow, MA; m.(1) Isaiah Whitney; m.(2) Jonathan Sawyer Jr.
ii. Sarah Whitney, b. 2 Oct 1716, Stow, MA;[5] m. Abraham Whitney.
