Rev. John6 Whitney (Asa5, Nathan4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Asa5 and Patience (Weston) Whitney, was born 17 Apr 1783, Gorham, ME,[1] and died 9 Mar 1851 in Dexter, ME. He was a Methodist preacher.

He married, 6 Jul 1808, Unity, ME, Hannah Rich, both of Lincoln Plantation.[2] She was born 4 Nov 1781, and died after 1860.

They resided Thorndike and Dexter, ME.

iv. Esther B. Whitney, b. 5 Aug 1815, Thorndike, ME; d. 23 Feb 1907, Boston, MA, aged 91 years, of senility and calcareous degeneration of vessels;[3] unmarried; resided Le Grange St., Boston, MA.
v. Eunice Whitney, b. 7 Jul 1817; d. after 1860.
vi. Patience Whitney, b. 14 Jun 1819, d. 12 Dec 1819.
vii. Hannah Whitney, b. 29 Sep 1821, Maine; m. John K. Kinsberry, enumerated in Dexter in 1850.
viii. Martha C. Whitney, b. 6 Aug 1822; not found in 1850 or 1860 censuses.
ix. Benjamin Whitney, b. 8 Sep 1824; d. after 1860; not found in 1850, 1870, or 1880 censuses.
x. Mary Whitney, b. 19 Dec 1826; prob. the Mary S. Whitney "of Winterport" who m. (int. 19 Jun 1863) 2 Jul 1863, Liberty, ME, Mr. Caleb W. Lewis, "of Liberty".[4]

This is his widow Hannah with two daughters Esther and Eunice. James C. Whitney is unidentified, and his birth does not appear in the Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841-1910.
