John Edward⁸ Whitney (John⁷, Mellen⁶, Elias⁵, Elias⁴, Jonathan³, Benjamin², John¹), son of John⁷ and Mary (Banker) Whitney, was born 20 Mar 1838, and died after 1880.

He married, 1859-1860, Jane E. Thompson, daughter of William and Mary Ruth (Alford) Thompson. She was born about 1837, Peasleeville, NY, and died after 1880.
