He married, 7 Jul 1842, Mount Sterling, Brown Co., IL, Martha Jane Riggins, daughter of Mark and Rachel (Bristow) Riggins. She was born 22 Feb 1822, Brown Co., IL, and died 27 Nov 1881, Union Grove, MN.

iv.	Emma A. Whitney, b. ca. Sep 1849, IL; d. 1873, buried in the Oakland Cemetery, St Paul, MN. She m. John Stillman Boyd, 3 Dec 1867, Ramsey Co., MN. He was b. Dec 1842, ME, the son of Edward A. and Sarah B. Boyd, and d. 4 Jan 1923 in Los Angeles Co., CA; buried at the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Los Angeles, CA.
v.	George W. Whitney, b. ca. Feb 1854, IL; d. after 1920, Story Mill, MT; m. 27 Oct 1883, Otter Tail, MN, Effie Monroe.

vii.	Lydia Ella Whitney, b. ca. Nov 1859, IL;d. 11 Jun 1949, Ramsey Co., MN; m. George M. Dalles Bowers. He was b. Jan 1845 in VA; d. 7 Jun 1914 in Ramsey Co., MN. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery, St Paul, MN. They had one child, Ethel Whitney Bowers, b. 11 Apr 1894 in New Canada, MN.
