Jonathan4 Whitney (Josiah3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Josiah3 and Mary (----) Whitney, was born 16 Jun 1703, Wrentham, MA,[1] and died 21 Apr 1768, Wrentham, MA, in 65th year.[2]

He married firstly, 1 Nov 1726, Wrentham, MA, Tryphene Daniel,[3] daughter of Ebenezer and Elizabeth (Partridge) Daniel. She was born 12 Jun 1704, Medfield, MA, and died 24 Sep 1748, Wrentham, MA, aged 45 years.[4]

He married secondly, 10 or 30 Jun 1752, Wrentham, MA, Rebekah Dunton,[5] daughter of Samuel and Deborah (Pierce) Dunton. She was born 20 Dec 1726, Wrentham, MA, and died 15 Dec 1814, Wrentham, MA, in 88th year.[6]

He was also known as Capt. Jonathan Whitney Esq. He was aged over 14 in 1718, Wrentham, MA. He was a subscriber to Prince's Chronology, 24 copies, after 1728, Wrentham, MA.

Pierce says the following:[7]

He was the largest subscriber to Prince's Chronology, 24 copies; inventory, £87-11-1 1/2. He left wid. (name not given.) His father died in 1718, when he was but 14 years of age, and he made application to the probate court to have his uncle Benjamin appointed his guardian. Ebenezer MANN was administrator of his estate in 1770. His estate was settled in 1768. Left a widow, name not given.

In 1768, Wrentham, MA, his estate was settled, and his inventory amounted to £87 18s 1-1/2d.

i. Mary5 Whitney, b. 8 Jan 1727/8;[8] bapt. 14 Jan 1728, Wrentham, MA;[9] "Mrs." "of Dorchester" married 8 Oct 1774, Plymouth,[10] or 25 Oct 1774, Dorchester, MA, Rev. Mr. Jacob Bacon "of Plymouth".[11]
ii. Jonathan Whitney, b. 9 Mar 1729/30;[12] d. 7 May 1730, Wrentham, MA, aged 1 month 28 days.[13]

Children of Jonathan4 and Rebekah (Dunton) Whitney were:

i. Tryphena5 Whitney, b. 9 Mar 1753, Wrentham, MA;[14] m. Abel Witherell.
