Joshua5 Whitney, Jr. (Joshua4, Richard3, Richard2, John1), son of Dea. Joshua4 and Zerviah (-----) Whitney, was born 27 Aug 1747, Stow, MA,[1] and died 14 Apr 1771, Stow, MA, in his 24th year.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 1 Oct 1763, Stow, MA, for him and Marcy Pierce,[3] daughter of William and Mercy (-----) Pierce. She was born 10 Jun 1743, Stow, MA, and apparently died after 1800, when she was probably the female over 45 in her second husband's household. She "wid." married secondly, 11 Feb 1775, Stow, MA, Oliver Wyman,[4] born about 1747, and died 19 Oct 1800, Boxborough, MA, aged 53 years.

On 30 Apr 1771, Stow, MA, was recorded the administration bond of Mercy Whitney of Stow, widow, with Samuel Hayward of Acton, gent., and Eleazer Fisher of Littleton, husbandman, as sureties, as administratrix of the estate of Joshua Whitney, late of Stow, yeoman. On 19 Jun 1771, Stow, MA, his inventory was taken by Samuel Hayward, Ephraim Hapgood, and Eliazer Fletcher, totaling £197-9s-4d. On 28 Jul 1772, Stow, MA, his inventory was exhibited by the administratrix. On 7 Jun 1785, Boxborough, MA, division of the estate was made by Francis Faulkner, Jabez Brown, and Simon Tuttle; widow, Marcy Wyman; daughters Elizabeth Whitney, Lois Mace, wife of Eliphalet Mace, and Susannah Whitney (the youngest); sons Eliphalet Whitney (eldest) and Joshua Whitney, Jr.; signed by Oliver Wyman, Marcy Wyman, Eliphalet Whitney, Eliphalet Mace, Lois Mace, Silas Taylor (guardian of Joshua Whitney, Jr.), Nehemiah Batchelor (guardian of Susannah Whitney), and Marcy Hosmer.

Pierce says the following:[5]

His will is dated 1771, and besides mentioning the following children, says, "other heirs, Silas TAYLOR, Nehemiah BATCHELLOR, and Marcy HOSMER."

iii. Lois Whitney, b. 16 Jan 1766, Stow[7] or Boxborough, MA; m. 16 Mar 1785, Littleton, MA, Eliphalet Mace, both "of Boxborough",[8] son of Eliphalet and Sarah (-----) Mace.
iv. Marcy Whitney, b. 13 Oct 1767, Stow[9] or Boxborough, MA; m. 6 Nov 1783, Acton, MA, Ephraim Hosmer,[10] both "of Boxborough".
v. Joshua Whitney 3rd, b. 11 Jan 1769, Lunenburg or Stow, MA;[11] m. Abigail Holt.
vi. Susanna Whitney, b. 14 Apr 1770, Lunenburg, MA, or 14 Apr 1771, Stow[12] or Boxborough, MA;[13] on 6 Apr 1785, Stow, MA, Susane Whitney, aged 15 years, daughter of Joshua Whitney, late of Stow, now Boxborough, deceased, chose Mr. Nehemiah Batchelor of Boxborough as guardian; on 13 Apr 1785, Boxborough, MA, Nehemiah Batchelor, gentleman, of Boxborough, was appointed guardian of Susanna Whitney, daughter of Joshua Whitney, late of Stow, and posted bond with Oliver Wyman, yeoman, of Boxborough, and Francis Faulkner, Esq., of Acton, as sureties.
