Family:Whitney, Lemuel (1817-a1870)

Rev. Lemuel⁷ Whitney (John⁶, John⁵, James⁴, Joseph³, Jonathan², John¹), born in New Hampshire on 7 Nov 1817; married 5 Jul 1845, in Belvidere, Illinois, Fanny M. Gould, born July 22, 1822; died 15 Jun 1866; married 2d, 8 Oct 1867, Julia M. Gould.

He was born in New Hampshire where he remained on the farm until his majority, when he moved to Illinois. He married while residing in Belvidere. After a happy married life of twenty-one years she passed away at Washington, Iowa, and was buried at Spencer's Grove, in that state. He was one of the pioneer preachers in Illinois, and after many years of toil and hard labor in the itinerancy his health failed and he was obliged to resign his position as traveling preacher, but still continued to preach occasionally as his health would admit. He now holds a superannuated relation in the Free Methodist conference of Wisconsin, waiting his call to join the conference above where there is no more sickness, pain or death. Resided Belvidere, Illinois, and Marshall, Wisconsin.

i.	John W.8 Whitney, born 6 Aug 1851; married Julia D. Graham.
ii.	Eugene M. Whitney, born 6 Aug 1853, Morris, Illinois. He was born in Belvidere, was educated at the public schools, and when eighteen years of age was united with the Wesleyan Methodist church. He began teaching in 1875, and has been engaged in that profession ever since; is at present teaching in Morris, Grundy County, Illinois.
iii.	Olive Emma Whitney, born 19 Mar 1860; resided Brookville, Kansas.
iv.	Alma Isabella Whitney, born 22 Apr 1848; married John Braggins; resided Beaumont, California. He was born in England, Sept, 19, 1844; s. p.
v.	Oscar L. Whitney, born 29 Mar 1847; married Ann M. Riley.
vi.	Artemas Lemuel Whitney, born 7 Dec 1855; res., unm., Topeka, Kansas.
vii.	Adelbert Goddard Whitney, born 8 Aug 1868; resided Marshall, Wisconsin.
