Moses3 Whitney (Richard2, John1), son of Richard2 and Martha (Coldham) Whitney, was born 1 Aug 1655 in Watertown, MA.[1] His date and place of death are unknown.

He married, 30 Sep 1686, Stow, MA, Sarah Knight "of Cambridge".[2] She was born about 1666, according to her age at death, which is consistent with her marriage date and the births of her children. Her parentage and birth place are unknown. She died on 23 Mar 1755 at Harvard, MA, "aged 88 years".[3]

He served in King Philip's War. Between 25 Nov and 3 Dec 1675, "Moses Whettney" enlisted as a soldier from Watertown under Capt. Nathaniel Davenport. On 29 Feb 1675/6, "Moses Whitny" was paid £2 14s. for service under Capt. Davenport.[4] On 24 Jul 1676, Moses Whitney was paid £3 5s. for service in King Philip's War under Capt. Joseph Sill.[5] On 24 Aug 1676, the town of Watertown agreed to pay wages of £2 16s. for his service.[6] On 22 Jun 1677, he was listed as "released" from service under Capt. Benjamin Swett.[7]

"He had land granted him at Stow, Apr. 8, 1681."[8]

He was taxed 4s 8d on 28 Aug 1688 in Stow, MA.[9]

"In 1692 he sold 4 1/2 acres of meadow and 10 acres of upland in Sudbury, as per deed to Benjamin Whittemore."[10]

"Moses Whitney of Stow, yeoman, with his wife Sarah consenting, sold a house in Concord's east part, with 4 1/2 acres adjoining, plus 15 acres of upland, also in Concord, to Benjamin Whittemore of Concord, weaver, for £40. Witnesses: Joshua Brooks and Joseph Rutter. Dated 16 March 1692. Acknowledged 1 April 1693, and recorded 31 Jan. 1695 (Middlesex Deeds, vol. 10, p. 371)."[11]

"June 4, 1708, he purchased 30 acres of land, swamp and meadow, of Richard BURCK, of Sudbury, which had been granted him by the town of Stow."[12]

"He made deed 1725, to son Abraham, and mentions other sons Moses and Jason, and his brother Rich. Whitney. ... Lemuel, 'youngest son' per father's deed."[13]
