Moses Bray8 Whitney (Salmon7, Moses6, Ephraim5, Moses4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Salmon7 and Abigail (Bray) Whitney, was born 22 Jul 1823, Phillips, ME, and died 29 Feb 1880, Stephen, MN. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston, MN.

He married firstly, Susan K. Brown. She died 1856, "Caraduc" [probably Caratunk], ME.

He married secondly, 15 Sep 1856, Reads Landing, Wabasha Co., MN, Emeline J. Converse, daughter of Samuel and Emeline (Taylor) Converse. She was born 16 Dec 1834, NY, and died 10 Jun 1907. She is buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston, MN.

He resided Camden, ME.

The family is found in Reads Landing in the 1875 census as follows: M. B. Whitney age 50, E. J. Whitney age 41, E. F. Whitney age 24, C. W. Whitney age 17, R. A. Whitney age 16, and J. A. Whitney age 5. (E. F. Whitney was not enumerated with the family in the 1870 census.) His obituary found in the Wabasha newspaper stated he had died of consumption at the age of 45 years, 7 months, and 6 days, at his home on the Tamarac River in Marshall County. He came to Minnesota in 1855 from Maine and settled in Reads Landing in 1856, where he engaged in the hardware and tin business. He later moved to a farm in Chester Twp., where he was living when the war broke out. He was a member of the 8th Minn. Vol., Co. G. After the war, he resided in Lake City until 1878, when he moved to the northwest part of the state. He left a wife and several children. He was noted to be "an honorable business man, a kind and charitable neighbor and a sincere friend."

Whitney, b. ca. 1851, ME; "of Warren, Minn." m. 15 Dec 1881, Belfast or Lincolnville, ME, Alice Viola Drinkwater "of Lincolnville".[1] Residences: 1885, Warren, Marshall Co., MN; 1895, Warren, Marshall Co., MN; 1900, Warren, Marshall Co., MN; 1910, Stillwater Ward 3, Washington Co., MN; 1920, Brockton Ward 6, Plymouth Co., MA; 1930, Brockton, Plymouth Co. MA.

iii. Cora Mosella9 Whitney, b. 7 Jun 1857, Reads Landing, MN; d. after 1925; m. before 1880, James M. Brown; resided Oskaloosa, Mahaska Co., IA, in 1925.
iv. Roswell Adams Whitney, b. ca. 1858, MN; d. 2 Oct 1935; unmarried. He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston, MN.
v. Alice Jeanette Whitney, b. 27 Feb 1870, Reads Landing, MN; d. 10 Dec 1904, Crookston, MN, of typhoid fever. In the 10 Dec 1904 Crookston newspaper it was noted that she was very ill with typhoid fever. In the 12 Dec 1904 newspaper, her obituary was printed. She was noted to have been born 34 years earlier in Reads Landing, Wabasha County, MN. She had moved with her mother to Crookston 6 years earlier. She was a member of the Congregational Church and was one of the most active workers in the church. She was survived by 2 brothers and 1 sister, the Rev. Mrs. Brown of Mankato, whose husband had preached for a time in Warren, MN. She is buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston, MN.
