Nelson9 Whitney (Alonzo Adams8, Abraham Johnson7, James6, Samuel5, Samuel4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Alonzo Adams8 and Fanny (Pitts) Whitney, was born 5 Jan 1823, Danby, NY, and died 27 May 1912, East Charleston, PA.

He married, 31 Dec 1845, Corning, NY, Susan Caroline Parcel, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Woodruff) Parcel, of Corning, formerly of Ithaca, NY. She was born 11 Mar 1824, Ithaca, NY, and died 30 Aug 1899, East Charleston, PA.

Resided Whitneyville, PA.

Phoenix says the following:

"Nelson Whitney, b. at Danby, N.Y., 5 Jan. 1823; a farmer, and proprietor of a cheese-factory; married at Corning, N.Y., 31 Dec. 1845, by Bertine Pew, Esq., to Susan Caroline Parcel, dau. of Samuel and Mary (Woodruff) Parcel, of Corning, formerly of Ithaca, N.Y., where she was born 11 March 1824. They dwelt at Corning till 1848; then settled at Whitneyville, Penn., and were living there in June 1876. He served as quartermaster, from 21 Ap. till 21 July 1861, in the 3d Reg., Penn. Vol. Infantry. He then raised a company, which was organized 18 Sept. 1861, sworn into State service 21 Sept. 1861, mustered into U. S. service 14 Oct. 1861, as Co. G, 45th Reg., Penn. Vol. Infantry, and was mustered out at Old Point Comfort, Va., 3 July 1862. "

i. William Edward10 Whitney, b. 20 Sep 1846, Corning, NY; d. 10 Sep 1848, Whitneyville, PA; bur. Whitneyville Cemetery.
ii. Mary Whitney, b. 2 Jul 1848, Whitneyville, PA; m. 26 Apr 1869, Whitneyville, PA, Abram Tipple, a farmer, son of Elias and Hannah (Kingsbury) Tipple, of the same place. He was born at Charleston, PA, 14 Jul 1846. They settled at Whitneyville, and were living there in May 1876.
iii. Frank Whitney, b. 31 Aug 1850, Whitneyville, PA; m. Adeline Schieffelin.
iv. Fanny Whitney, b. 18 Jun 1853, Whitneyville, PA; m. 20 Jan 1872, Whitneyville, PA, Otis Lee Atherton, son of Carlisle and Sarah (Young) Atherton, of Charleston, Penn., where he was born 21 Nov 1848. They settled at Whitneyville, and were living there in May 1876. He enlisted, 18 Feb 1864, in Co. A, 187th Reg. of Penn. Vol. Infantry; and was discharged at West Philadelphia, PA, 6 Jun 1865. While he was acting as a sharp-shooter in the battle of Spottsylvania, 18 Jun 1864, one of his eyes was destroyed by a bullet from the enemy. He was first-lieutenant of Co. F, 12th Reg. of Penn. Militia, in 1876.
