Peter6 Whitney (Peter5, Josiah4, Josiah3, [prob.] Benjamin2, John1), son of Peter5 and Mercy (Case) Whitney, was born 30 Nov 1776, Willington, CT,[1] and died 1838, Hartford, VT.

He married firstly, about 1800, Edith Davis, daughter of Bezaleel and Mary (Wright) Davis. She was born 7 Nov 1777, Hanover, NH.

He "Jr." married secondly, 5 May 1822, Tunbridge, VT, Sybil "Clarisa" Ainsworth, both of Tunbridge.[2] She was born about 1790.

Notes

Horace Whitney "of Concord", NH, changed his name to Horace Eaton on 13 Jul 1855.[5] When he married, 25 Dec 1858, Quincy, MA, Rebecca P. Baxter, his age is given as 26, his birthplace Royalton, VT, and his parents are listed as Calvin and Amanda Eaton.[6] That would make his birth about 1832. He named a son "Horace Ainsworth Eaton". A possible explanation of these facts is that Horace was Amanda Whitney's younger half-brother, whose mother was Sybil Ainsworth, and that he was brought up by Calvin and Amanda. This is the interpretation represented above. I haven't been able to find him in the 1850 Census under either surname. He was not living in the family of Calvin and Amanda at that time.
