Family:Whitney, Phineas (1803-a1850)

Phineas Whitney (Levi6, Abel5, Nathan4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Levi6 and Happy (Higgins) Whitney, was born 27 Jul 1803, Standish, ME,[1] was baptized 17 Oct 1809, Standish, ME,[2] and died after 1850 and probably before 1860.

He married 20 Oct 1831, Bangor, ME, Hannah B. Lowell. She was born 1807, Bangor, ME, and died after 1870 and possibly before 1880, since she had not been found in the 1880 census.

i. Sarah M. Whitney, b. ca. 31 Aug 1833, Portland or Gray, ME; d. 11 Oct 1860, Boston, MA, aged 27 years 1 month 11 days, of phthisis;[3] m. 30 May 1855, Portland, ME, John A. Burges.
ii. Mary F. Whitney, b. 1835, Portland, ME; m. 7 Jun 1853, Portland, ME, Edwin F. Tibbets.
iii. Melinda E. J. Whitney, b. 1837, Portland, ME; m. 25 Dec 1860, Boston, MA, William Fox, b. ca. 1826, England, son of Samuel A. and Elizabeth (-----) Fox. He was a mariner.[4]
iv. Mercy A. Whitney, b. 1839, Portland, ME.
v. Martha Ann Whitney, b. 24 Aug 1841, Portland, ME, m. Albertus A. Kimball.
vi. William F. Whitney, b. 1842, Portland, ME; d. after 1850, but not found in censuses from 1860 onwards.
vii. Phineas W. Whitney, b. 17 May 1844, Portland, ME; m. Mary E. Westcott.
viii. Ellen Louisa Whitney, called "Nellie", b. 3 May 1848, Portland, ME; m. Charles A. Woodford.
ix. Charles Henry Whitney, b. ca. 1848, Portland, ME; d. 18 Jul 1880, Chelsea, MA, aged 29 years, of consumption; iron worker, unmarried.[5]
x. George H. Whitney, b. ca. 1855, Portland, ME; m.(1) Addie F. Morton; m.(2) Mary E. Long.
