Platt⁶ Whitney (Henry⁵, Eliasaph⁴, Nathan³, John², Henry¹), son of Henry⁵ and Prudence (Gray) Whitney, was born 28 Sep 1789, Darien, CT,^[1] and died 5 Mar 1842, Sheffield, MA, by drowning. She was buried in Shears Cemetery, Sheffield, MA.^[2]

He married firstly, 10 Nov 1818, Moreau, NY, Susan Parks, daughter of Solomon and Susan (Burnham) Parks. She was born 18 Feb 1795, Moreau, NY, and died 16 Aug 1820, Moreau, NY, of consumption.

He "of Great Barrington" married secondly, 2 Oct 1821, Sheffield, MA, Rana Bills "of Sheffield",^[3] daughter of Hosea and Sally (Kellogg) Bills. She was born 15 Aug 1802, Sheffield, MA, and died Nov 1895. She was buried in Shears Cemetery, Sheffield, MA.^[4]

Phoenix says the following:

". . . a farmer . . . . He settled in Sheffield, . . . and was buried in Sheffield Plains graveyard. His widow lived at Sheffield, in Nov. 1875."

Runa Whitney, adult, was baptized 7 May 1826, Sheffield, MA.^[5]

Susan Parks Whitney, b. 10 Aug 1822, Sheffield, MA; d. after 1874; "of Sheffield" m. 25 Sep 1839, Sheffield, MA, Walter R. Holmes "of Salisbury, Ct.",[6] a farmer, son of John and Statira (Adams) Holmes, of Salisbury, CT, where he was born 2 Sept. 1815. They settled in Salisbury, near the Chapinville station of the Connecticut Western Railroad, and were living there in 1874.

Frances Bills Whitney, b. 7 Jun 1829, Sheffield, MA; d. 2 Feb 1869, Oakland, CT, and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, or in Shears Cemetery, Sheffield, MA;[7] m. 1 Sep 1847, Sheffield, MA, William Fayette Boardman,[8] a civil engineer, of Sheffield, b. 14 Sep 1824, Salisbury, CT, son of William and Abigail (North) Boardman, afterward of Sheffield. Previous to his marriage, he had lived at Lockport, NY, in 1842-43; and in Egremont, MA, in 1845-46. They went to California in 1851; lived in San Francisco till 1859; and then settled in Oakland. He m.(2) 6 Oct 1869, Omaha, NE, Kate Bills Holmes, a niece of his first wife, and was living at Oakland in 1874. He has been county-surveyor of Alameda County; city-surveyor of Oakland; and in 1874, was a member of the Board of Education of that city.
