Robert Whitney (John, Edward), son of John Whitney and Mary Twitchell, was born about 1822, Maine, and died 1896.

He married say 1848, probably in or near Falmouth, Cumberland County, Maine, Mary E. (-----). She was born about 1825, Maine, and died after 1870. In 1850, Mercy Bennett, born about 1796, Maine, was residing with the family and may possibly have been Mary E.'s mother.

In 1850, they were enumerated in Falmouth, Cumberland County, Maine. In 1860, they were enumerated in Chesterville, Franklin County, Maine. In 1870, they were enumerated in Lincoln, Penobscot County, Maine.
