Family:Whitney, Salmon (c1801-1858)
Salmon Whitney, parentage unknown (but see Notes below), was born circa 29 Jul 1801, NY and died 29 Jan 1855, Inland, Cedar Co., IA, aged 53 years 6 months. He was buried in Inland Cemetery, Bennett, IA.[1]
He married Bathsheba [?West?]. She was born circa 1802, NY and died 21 Apr 1862, Inland, IA.[2]
On 13 Apr 1838, "Salmon Whitney", "Bathsheba Whitney", and "Bathsheba West" were among the organizing members of the Congregational Church of Guilford.[3]

i. Minerva Whitney, b. 2 Dec 1823, Staten Island, NY; d. 19 Mar 1873, Cedar Co., IA; m. 15 Jan 1845, Medina Co., OH, George R. Willey. - Willey, George R., farmer, Post Office Inland; born June 28, 1819, in Ashtabula County, Ohio; removed with his parents to Medina County, in 1833. At the age of 26 he married Minerva Whitney, oldest daughter of Solomon Whitney, of the same county; she was a devoted wife and loving mother, respected and beloved for her amiable and charitable disposition; came to this county in the Fall of 1850, where she cheerfully endured the hardships and privations of a pioneer life; she was born December 2, 1823, and died March 19, 1873, leaving husband, four sons and two daughters to mourn her loss. Harriet F., born February 24, 1846; Charles D., born July 5, 1847; Franklin E., born June 18, 1849; Edwin G., born December 7, 1853; Harmon G., born December 17, 1856; Jennie E., born August 24, 1863. Mr. Willey is a man of strong constitution and strict integrity, and by his close application to business, he has acquired a fair competency of this world's goods. A staunch Republican; an earnest worker in the Sabbath School and liberal supporter of the Gospel. He was married the second time to Alice Timberlake, October 22, 1874; she was born January 7, 1836, in Noble County, Ohio. To them was born one son--Freddie L., January 17, 1876, and who died February 3, 1876. Owns a farm of 356 acres.[4]

Notes
Linda B. Hansen at her "Up A Tree" database on Ancestry.com says that he was a son of Isaac5 and Phebe (Gould) Whitney of Granville, NY. This seems possible, but I have seen no evidence proving this identification. He was listed in Castile, Genesee Co., NY, in 1830, as were Isaac6 Whitney and Joseph Whitney. If the former was a brother, that would establish the above connection. Conceivable Joseph could be another brother, otherwise not listed among Isaac5's children.
