Samuel6 Whitney (Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Samuel5 and Abigail (Fletcher)Whitney, was born 11 Feb 1746, Westminster, MA,[1] and died 7 or 8 Jun 1812, Westminster, MA, aged 66 years.[2]

Marriage intentions were published 1 Jun 1784, Westminster, MA, for him and "Mrs." Thankful Wilder.[3] He married, prob. 30 Jun 1784, Westminster, MA, Thankful Wilder, daughter of Joshua and Sarah (Keyes) Wilder. She was baptized 12 Oct 1746, Shrewsbury, MA.

After he died, she moved to Oswego, NY, and resided with her son Moses. He resided Westminster, MA.

He was a farmer, member of the Calvanistic Congregational church and afterward of the Rollstone Congregational church; a Republican. He d. 1 Feb 1880. Children:
a. John Moses Hale, b. 21 Nov 1819; resided 169 Cambridge street, Brooklyn, NY.
b. Samuel Whitney Hale, b. 2 Apr 1822; m. and d. 16 Oct 1890. Ex-Gov. Samuel Whitney Hale was born in Fitchburg, MA. His grandfather, Moses Hale, came to Fitchburg from old Newbury, and was a farmer by occupation. Samuel Hale was also a farmer. He was a director of the Citizens' Bank of Keene and of the Wachusett Bank in Fitchburg, MA. His benefactions have been numerous and generous. While he was very reticent concerning such matters, it is well known that he had been instrumental in educating a Congregational clergyman, a missionary, a physician, and a young lady, the latter at Holyoke seminary, in addition to which he gave at one time $12,000 toward building a Congregational church in Keene. On the 12th day of September, after a most exciting and hotly contested canvass, he received the Republican nomination as candidate for governor. His election followed, and as governor he continued until 1885. Children:

Engaged in manufacturing furniture with his father at Keene, NH; m. 10 Oct 1883, Emma Wheeler Frost, b. 18 Apr 1856, 2d dau. of Hon. Rufus S. Frost, of Chelsea, MA; resided at Keene, NH; engaged in manufacturing. Children:

C. Samuel Whitney Hale, b. 12 Apr 1891, Keene, NH.
2. Mary Louise Hale, b. 26 Aug 1855, Dublin, NH. Educated at Abbot Academy, Andover, MA. Lived with her parents in Keene, NH, until her marriage, 20 Oct 1884, to Rev. William DeLoss Love, Jr. He was b. 29 Nov 1851, New Haven, CT, being the second son of Rev. William DeLoss Love, D.D. He was educated at Milwaukee Academy, Milwaukee, WI, and graduated from Hamilton College, Clinton, NY, in the class of 1873. After teaching two years at Leicester Academy, Leicester, MA, and the Broadway Grammar School, Norwich, CT, he entered Andover Theological Seminary, Andover, MA, and graduated in the class of 1878. He m. Jul 1878, Ada Minerva Warren, of Leicester, MA, who d. without issue 31 May 1881. He was ordained at Lancaster, MA, 18 Sep 1878, and dismissed from that pastorate in Jul 1881. After a year spent in travel, he served for a time the Second Congregational Church in Keene, NH; engaged in mercantile pursuits, and was the private secretary of Gov. Hale during his term in office. After his marriage to the daughter of Gov. Hale, he resumed the practice of his profession, and was installed as pastor of the Pearl Street Congregational Church, in Hartford, CT, 6 May 1885, where he has since resided. He was the first chaplain of the Connecticut Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, of which he was one of the original members; is an interested member of the Connecticut Historical Society and its corresponding secretary, and a member of the American Antequarian Society. He received the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from Hamilton College in 1894, and the same year was appointed a member of the Board of Park Commissioners of Hartford. Children:
