Samuel Albert8 Whitney (Samuel7, Samuel6, Ezra5, James4, John3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Samuel7 and Mary (Willard) Whitney, was born 17 May 1819, Monson, MA.

He "of Ware, merchant" married, 2 Sep 1845, Ware, MA, Sarah Ellen Clark,[1] daughter of Nathaniel and Abigail (Carver) Clark. She was born 13 Dec 1824, Barnard, VT, and died 3 Apr 1905, Boston, MA, aged 80 years 3 monts 22 days, of heart disease.[2]

He was born in Monson, MA, and went with his parents to the wilderness of Maine in 1820. They settled near Moose Head Lake; in a few years a town was incorporated and called Monson, in honor of his birthplace. After a residence of twelve years there, the family returned to Massachusetts. He was married in Ware and later resided in Ware and Brimfield, MA, and Hartford, CT, and for the past thirty-seven years in Norwich, CT. His business has been that of a merchant and for a few years he held the office of selectman and assessor, and for many years was notary public; resided Norwich, CT.

i. Sibyl C.9 Whitney, b. ca. 1849, Fitzwilliam, NH; m. 14 Jul 1885, Ware, MA, Edwin W. Rice, both of Winchendon.[3]
i. Mary Abbie Hartwell Whitney, b. 31 Dec 1854, Brimfield, MA;[4] d. 5 May 1856, Ware, MA, aged 1 year 4 months 5 days, of dropsy.[5]
