Samuel J.8 Whitney (Samuel7, Asa6, Levi5, Daniel4, Jonathan3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Samuel7 and Polly (Wallace) Whitney, was born 20 Jul 1817, Townsend, MA, and died 17 Oct 1894, Waltham, MA, aged 77 years 3 months, of Bright's disease.[1]

He married, 8 Jan 1840, Londonderry, VT, Lydia M. Stowell,[2] daughter of Luther and Lydia (Clark) Stowell. She was born 24 Aug 1818, Londonderry, VT, and died 11 May 1896, Waltham, MA, aged 77 years 9 months 18 days, of tuberculosis.[3]

Samuel Whitney was born in Townsend, MA, 20 Jul 1817. For many years he was mechanic for Nashua Manufacturing Company, and like his father was a skillful and ingenious workman, inventing not a few labor-saving devices which he did not patent. In May 1864, he entered the employ of American Watch County, at Waltham, from which he retired in 1888. He has been for many years a member of the Congregational church, is a Republican in politics, and has been a generous helper in religious and philanthropic causes. He resided Waltham, MA.
