Dr. Sumner Clark9 Whitney (Sumner Allen8, John7, John6, Nathan5, David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of Sumner Allen8 and Lura (Clark) Whitney, was born 7 Mar 1853, Portsmouth, VA.

He married, 7 Jul 1874, Worcester, MA, May Olive Hoyt. She was born 7 Mar 1853.

He was brought up in Worcester and attended the public schools and the military academy; studied dentistry and medicine in Philadelphia in 1876 and 1877, and practiced dentistry in Worcester till Mar 1891 when owing to poor health, he went to New Haven in hopes of finding a more congenial climate. He is church clerk of the First Baptist church, member of several temperance organizations, of the New England Dental Societies, but his most loved work is in connection with the Boys' Brigade, a Christian movement for the best interests of the boys. Is president of the 6th New Haven Boys' Brigade, and was the organizer of the company; resided New Haven, CT, 678 State St.
