Sydney9 Whitney (Benjamin8, John7, Abner6, Samuel5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Benjamin8 and Mehitabel (Whitcomb) Whitney, was born 8 Nov or Dec 1840, Fitchburg, MA,[1] and died 20 Sep 1889, Fitchburg, MA, aged 48 years 9 months 12 days, of pernicious anemia.[2]

He married, 4 Jun 1865, Leominster, MA (also recorded in Fitchburg, MA), Abigail Dearborne Tolman, daughter of Samuel Clark and Ann Niles (Dearborne) Tolman.[3] She was born 13 Dec 1840, Marlborough or Nashua, NH, and died after 1920.

In 1871 he was a clerk living at 2 River Place, Boston, MA.

iii. Maud Elizabeth Whitney, b. 9 Sep 1873, Fitchburg, MA;[8] d. after 1910, then unmarried.
iv. Philip Sydney Whitney, b. 28 May 1877, Boston, MA,[9] or 30 May 1877, Fitchburg, MA;[10] m. 8 Nov 1898, Fitchburg, MA, Annie Gertrude Carey, b. ca. 1880, West Claremont, NH, dau. of William L. and Mary A. (Dixon) Carey.[11]
