Family:Whitney, Thomas (1681-a1722)
Thomas4 Whitney (Thomas3, Thomas2, John1), son of Thomas3 and Elizabeth (Lawrence) Whitney, was born 17 Sep 1681 or 17 Sep 1687, Stow, MA.[1]
He "of Stow" married, 26 Jul 1704, Concord, MA, Mary Baker "of Concord", daughter of William and Elizabeth (Dutton) Baker. She was born 28 Jan or Mar 1682, Concord, MA.
Pierce says the following:[2]
- May 19, 1719, in the old proprietor's book in Stow is the following relating to division of lands: "Thomas Whitney joining to his half-moon meadow and Mr. Googen's land."
The list of children of Thomas4 and Mary (Baker) Whitney is uncertain. I have included here some who are conjectural, along with those who are certain:
i. (poss.) John5 Whitney, b. say 1706; m. Lydia -----. ii. (poss.) William Whitney, b. say 1708; m. Sarah -----. iii. (poss.) Hepsabeth Whitney, b. say 1710; m. Abraham Rugg. iv. Samuel Whitney, b. 22 Jul 1714, Stow, MA;[3] m. Grace -----. v. Joseph Whitney, b. between 8 Apr 1715 and 7 Apr 1716; m. Hannah Chandler. vi. (poss.) Sarah Whitney, b. about 17 Apr 1720, Stow, MA; m. John Priest. vii. David Whitney, b. 4 Oct 1722, Stow, MA;[4] m.(1) Olive Sawyer; m.(2) Sarah (Rugg) Hill.

1.^ "Thomas [Whetney], s. Thomas and Elizabeth, [born] Sept. 17, 1687. M.R," according to F. Apthorp Foster, ed., Vital Records of Stow, Massachusetts, to the Year 1850 (Boston, MA: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1911). This is an apparent error for 1681, not 1687, since the latter date conflicts with his brother Benjamin's. It also makes him a plausible 22, not 16, at marriage.
