William8 Whitney (Joseph7, William6, William5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Joseph7 and Hannah (Perley) Whitney, was born 29 Jul 1814, Winchendon, MA,[1] and died 12 Mar 1872, West Roxbury, MA, aged 57 years 7 months, of sciatica, married, trader, married, born Winchendon, son of Joseph and Hannah of Winchendon.[2]

He married, 4 Jun 1840, Roxbury, MA, Mary E. Glines,[3] daughter of Nathan H. and Sarah H. (Rowell) Glines. She was born about 1821, Roxbury, MA, and died 15 Jan 1878, Boston, MA, aged 54 years [sic], of fatty degeneration of liver, resided Burr Street, widow of William, daughter of Nathan H. Glines of Moultonborough, NH, and Sarah H. of Salem, NH.[4]

i. Emma E.9 Whitney, b. ca. May 1841, Boston, MA; d. 14 Apr 1884, Boston, MA, aged 42 years 11 months, of hematocete hemorrhage; unmarried; resided 96 Boylston Street, Boston, MA.[5]
ii. Ellen F. Whitney, b. ca. Feb 1843, Roxbury, MA; d. 26 Apr 1873, West Roxbury, MA, aged 30 years 2 months, of consumption.[6]
iii. William D. Whitney, b. betw. 1 May 1844 and 1 May 1845, Roxbury, MA;[7] d. after 1910, then unmarried.
iv. Mary A. Whitney, b. 7 Feb 1847, Roxbury, MA;[8] d. 22 Sep 1870, Roxbury, MA, aged 23 years 7 months, of consumption.[9] Probably enumerated as "Nancy E." in 1860.
v. Arvine H. Whitney, b. May 1849, MA, d. 1 Jan 1872, West Roxbury, MA, aged 22 years 7 months, of consumption, clerk.[10] Probably enumerated as "Anna H." in 1850 and "Thomas J." in 1860.
vi. Kate M. Whitney, b. 12 Jun 1851, West Roxbury, MA [given name omitted];[11] d. 31 Jan 1873, West Roxbury, MA, aged 21 years 7 months, of consumption.[12]
vii. Charles W. Whitney, b. 13 Jul 1853, West Roxbury, MA;[13] m. Lucy E. Lacey/DeLacy.
