William Whitney, parentage unknown (but see Notes below), was born about 1790, MA, and died 6 Jun 1853, aged 62 years. He was buried in Churchill Cemetery, Sheffield, MA.[1]

Marriage intentions were published 17 Oct 1819, Sheffield, MA, for him "of Salisbury, Ct." and Rebecca Sparks.[2] He married, 2 Nov 1819, Mount Washington, MA, Rebecca Sparks, daughter of Lemuel and Sarah (Parmenter) Sparks. She was born between 1800 and 1804 (age 16-26 in 1820, 20-29 in 1830), or about 1795 (per gravestone), and died 7 Nov 1850, Salisbury, CT, aged 55 years. She was buried in Churchill Cemetery, Sheffield, MA.[3]

In 1840 he had many probably-unrelated men living in his household.

v. Emmeline Whitney, b. ca. 1829, CT; living 1850. Possibly the Emeline Whitney who lived in Sheffield, MA, in 1900, age 70, unmarried.
vi. Jeremiah Whitney, b. ca. 1830, CT; his given name is variously given as Jerry, Jarvis, Jairus, Jerry, or Gerry; d. 12 Jan 1908; m.(1) bef. 1850, Mary Ann Shook; m.(2) 30 Mar 1899, Mary Westfall; res. Ancram, Columbia Co., NY, 1855, 1865, 1870, 1875, 1880, 1900.
vii. William Smith Whitney, b. 10 Nov 1833, CT; m. Virginia M. Stillman.
viii. George Whitney, b. ca. 1836, CT; d. 1903, Columbia Co., NY; m. bef. 1857, Catherine Spencer; res. Ancram, Columbia Co., NY.

Notes

It is possible that he was identical to William7 Whitney, son of Cornelius6 and Hannah (Green) Whitney.
