William Whitney, parentage unknown, perhaps brother of Thomas Whitney (c1782-?), born about 1791, Herefordshire City, England (Hereford, Herefordshire, England).

He married Maria -----. She was born about 1796, Somerset, England and died between 1841 and 1851.

In 1841 the family was enumerated at Worcester Cottage in Lansdown, Walcot, Somerset, England where William was listed as a Surgeon. The family was living in Lyncombe, Walcot, Somerset, England where William worked as an apothecary at the Eastern Dispencery in 1851. He was a widower.

Probably the 'William Hordd Whitney' (c1785-?), of Herefordshire & Bathwick, Somerset (1861)

i. Sophia Whitney, b. ca. 1821, Somerset, England.
ii. Ellen Whitney, b. ca. 1826, Somerset, England.
iii. Emma Whitney, b. ca. 1826, Somerset, England or 1828, Gloucestershire, England. She was listed as an embroideress in 1851.
iv. Richard Whitney, b. ca. 1828, Somerset, England.
v. John Whitney, b. ca. 1830, Somerset, England or 1832, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England. He was listed as an assistant apothecary in 1851.
