William Francis Brown9 Whitney (John Dudley8, Jonathan7, Jonathan6, Joseph5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, John2, John1), son of John Dudley8 and Elizabeth (Doughty) Whitney, was born ca. 10 Feb 1842, Acton, MA, and died 16 Nov 1904, Acton, MA, of senile dementia due to degenerative changes in blood vessels of brain.[1]

He enlisted 2 Sep 1861, aged 19 years, in the Union Army. The 1890 Veterans Schedule shows that he was a private in Company E, Regiment 26, Massachusetts Infantry from 18 Oct 1861 to 10 Aug 1865. The disability incurred is listed as "An Invated Soldier." He resided at 21 Main St. in Marlborough.

He married 20 Apr 1864, Acton, MA,[2] Annie McNerney. She was born 1847 in Portland, ME, and died 28 Oct 1909 in Boston, MA, of faulty degeneration of the heart.[3] They are both buried in Rocklawn Cemetery, Marlborough, MA.

v. Viola Whitney, b. 23 May 1879, Natick, MA;[7] d. 9 Nov 1879, Natick, MA, aged 5 months 16 days, of marasmus.[8]
v. Arthur C. Whitney, b. 2 Mar 1882, Natick, MA [given name omitted];[9] m. 11 Jul 1905, Waltham, MA, Catherine J. Connerney, b. ca. 1884, Waltham, MA, dau. of Michael and Mary (Coen) Connerney.[10] Children:
