Susquehanna County Testament & Last Will Ebenezer Whitney Dec

In the name of God Amen. Ebenezer Whitney of the town of Hopbottom in the county of Susquehanna in the state of Pennsylvania being weak and feeble of body but of sound mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. Firstly, I give and bequeath to my son David Whitney one hundred dollars. Secondly, I give and bequeath to my daughter Typhena Titus ten dollars. Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my son Roswell Whitney and to my Daughter Emerilla Maxon one dollar each all which legacies above mentioned shall be paid by my executors herein after mentioned out of the avails of my personal estate, eighteen months after my decease if so much be left after payment of all debts and legal demands against my estate, Fourthly, I give bequeath and devise to my beloved wife Sarah Whitney her heirs and assigns forever one equal divided third part of the farm or tract of Land on which I resided when at home lying and being in the township of Hopbottom and Harford in the county of Susquehanna & state of Pennsylvania aforesaid containing about two hundred acres be the same more or less together with one undivided third part of all the barns, sheds, cider mill, outhouse, and other buildings thereon except the dwelling house, all the south half of which together with the land on which it stands and door yard adjoining thereto I give and devise to the said Sarah Whitney her and heirs and assigns forever said farm being all that tract of Land granted to me by letters patent from the State of Pennsylvania in the year 1810 or 1811 except which I have sold thereof. Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my said wife Sarah Whitney one third part of all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate whether goods & chattles debts chose in action of whatever became on nature after the payment of my debts and legacies abovementioned. It is however to be understood that the above devise and bequests is in lieu of dower, Sixthly, I give and bequeath and devise all the rest residue and remaining part of my estate both real and personal whether if be land or nature to my sons Orange Whitney, David Whitney, Isaac Whitney, Ebenezer Whitney junior, Ephraim Whitney, and Reuben Whitney there heirs and assigns forever to be equally divided between them or owned in equal shares. Seventhly, I hereby constitute and appoint Orange Whitney, William McCormick executors and Sarah Whitney executrix of this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal to this twenty-sixth day of August in the Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-four.
