No Eleazer WHITNEY appears in the 1790 Census Index.

The last record of this Eleazer WHITNEY says that he was 26-45 years old, as

was his wife, and they had 2 sons 0-9, 2 sons 10-15, 3 daughters 0-9, and 1

daughter 10-15.  This makes him born between 1755 and 1774.  He is a very

likely candidate for the father of your Philip WHITNEY, b. 1797.

I do not know the origin of Eleazer WHITNEY of Halifax, VT.  Perhaps someone

with access to Pierce's _Whitney Genealogy_ can find him.  I also have no

record of a marriage between any WHITNEY male and any BARTLETT or WARD female

before 1800.

You should look for probate records for Eleazer WHITNEY between 1830 and 1840

in or near Halifax, VT, to look for proof that Philip was his son.

My Whitney Line

Edit My Whitney Line

I have traced back to Nathan Whitney, but uncertain as to date or place of birth. I would guess about 1735. I do know he was married to Abigail and they had a son, Eleazer, born about 1755 in Halifax, Vermont. Eleazer was married to Martha Crozier in 1784 and they had at least 9 children. My Grandmother was Leona Whitney Pratt the daughter of Mervin and Florence Ingram Whitney. I have a considerable amount of information on Whitneys in this area going back to Nathan, but thats where the trail has ended for me.
