William7 Whitney (Phinehas6, William5, William4, Nathaniel3, John2, John1), son of Phinehas6 and Lydia (Bowes) Whitney, was born 3 Oct 1778, Shirley, MA,[1] and died 29 Jan 1837, or 29 Jan 1839, Boston, MA, aged 58 years.[2]
Marriage intentions were published 12 Apr 1801, Shirley, MA, for him and Elizabeth Fisk "of Bedford".[3] He "of Sherly" married firstly, 30 Mar 1802, Bedford, MA, Elizabeth Fisk,[4] daughter of Benjamin and Rebecca (Howe) Fisk. She was born 7 Apr 1783, Lexington, MA, and died 24 Feb 1810.
He married secondly, 29 Mar 1819, Burlington, MA, Martha Simonds,[5] daughter of Jonathan and Phebe (Cummings) Simonds. She was born 6 Oct 1791, Woburn, MA, and died 23 Jan 1837, Boston, MA, aged 45 years.[6]
He resided Shirley, Winchendon and Boston, MA.

Given his birth date in 1778, and his age of 58 at death, the 1837 date seems more likely to be correct. This could be an error in reading the tombstone, or an error on the tombstone itself.
