Harry, Alfred) used to believe the Melville stuff, but I've read the articules that cast doubt on that lineage.

I also have an intersting Whitney on my Cressey side:  Martha Ella Cressey, the older sister of my paternal grandfather married Charles Frederick Whitney of Pittston, Maine.  I've found some of his artwork on the web, but I can't definitively link him in to any of the established Whitney lines, which would be fun to do even though he's not my ancester.

I get to london from time to time and plan another visit to the Gen Society Library, mostly to do Cressey stuff, but I could take something on if anyone has an intersting query.
