Joshua Smith8 Whitney (Charles Fitch7, Thomas6, Benjamin5, Joseph4, Joseph3, Jonathan2, John1), son of Charles Fitch7 and Louisa (Kemp) Whitney, was born Oct 1842, and died 4 Feb 1881, VT, aged 39 years.
He married, 3 Jan 1870, Johnson, VT, Cornelia Ann Shattuck, daughter of Jeremiah and Sarah S. (Call) Shattuck.[1] She was born 27 Sep 1849, Belvidere, VT, and died after 1880. She married secondly, 5 Oct 1884, Colebrook, NH, Julius K. Robbins.[2]
Civil War, from Wolcott, VT, enlisted 14 Jul 1862, as a Corporal, in Company D, Vermont 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment on 1 Sep 1862; promoted to Full Sergeant on 26 Dec 1863; promoted to Full Private on 25 Dec 1864; mustered out on 24 Jun 1865 (Roster of Vermont Volunteers During the War of the Rebellion 1861-66).
