Samuel Whitney, parentage unknown, born say 1775, supposedly in VT, and died 1808, Seneca, Ontario Co., NY.
He married, circa 1801, Cynthia Powers. She was born 19 Jul 1777, Springfield, Windsor Co., VT, daughter of Jarahmeel Powers.
In 1802, Samuel bought land in Seneca, Ontario Co., NY from his brother-in-law Peter Powers.
Children of Samuel and Cynthia (Powers) Whitney:
i. Joseph Whitney. ii. Benjamin F. Whitney, b. ca. 1805; m. Maria Kemball Edwards. iii. Silas Blanchard Whitney, b. ca. 1807.
Notes
A descendant of Samuel's son Benjamin was DNA tested and appears to be a descendant of the immigrant John Whitney. Also, differences in the DNA were seen which have so far only found in the descendants of Eleazer Whitney, suggesting that Samuel's ancestry should be searched for among his descendants. One possibility is that this Samuel was perhaps that Samuel, bapt. 6 Jun 1756, Watertown, MA, son of John and Mary (Benjamin) Whitney, grandson of Eleazer, though no proof has yet been found.
