Josiah5 Whitney (John4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of John4 and Jerusha (Knowles) Whitney, was born 7 Nov 1741, Eastham, MA, died Salmon River, Queens County, New Brunswick, 1810.

He married, 24 Jan 1771, Brookline, MA, Hannah Turner,[1] daughter of Eliab and Martha (Barstow) Turner. She was born 1732, Cambridge, MA, and died 1807, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

He resided Gaspé, Nova Scotia, and Salmon River, New Brunswick.

Children of Josiah5 and Hannah (Turner) Whitney:

i. Margaret Hannah Whitney, b. say 1775, possibly in Plymouth, MA; m. William Samuel Lucas.
ii. Knowles [Noals] Whitney, b. -----. In 1804 he resided on Cape Breton Island, NS, with his wife Sarah and their daughter Lydia Whitney, b. 16 Sep 1804, Cape Breton Island, NS. Nothing more has been found.
iii. John Whitney, b. 1781; m.(1) Isabel -----; m.(2) Margaret -----.
iv. Eliab T. Whitney, b. 17 Dec 1789; m.(1) Lydia Butterworth; m.(2) Lydia Williams.
v. Seth6 Whitney, b. -----. He is perhaps the same as John Seth Whitney (c1789-1871).
vi. Hannah Whitney b. -----.
vii. Sally Whitney, b. -----.
viii. Martha Whitney, b. -----.
