William W. Cressey.  Earliest Whitney ancester that I'm confident of is John of London who moved to Watertown.  My line is John, John, Benjamin, David, Nathan, John, John, Edward, Harry, Beatrice, William Cressey (me).  I have done some research, including at the Genealogy Society in London and at the British Library, but I've never discovered anything not documented in the existing sources.  Mt uncle Alfred (John, John, .... Harry, Alfred) used to believe the Melville stuff, but I've read the articles that cast doubt on that lineage.
