Timothy Watts8 Whitney (Jacob7, Richard6, Richard5, Israel4, Ebenezer3, Richard2, John1), son of Jacob7 and Polly (Watts) Whitney, was born 5 Dec 1827, Weston, VT, and died 29 Feb 1904, Waterford, PA.

He, of Nashua, married 15 Nov 1849, Amherst, NH, Hannah Francis Knight , of Amherst,[1] daughter of Jonathan and Lucy Adeline (Putnam) Knight. She was born 15 Apr 1830, Amherst, NH, and died 1916, Waterford, PA.

After Timothy’s father, Jacob, died in 1833, it is most likely he went to live with his grandparents Richard and Sarah Whitney until he was 16.

Then he went to Nashua, NH, to work in a cotton mill where he became an overseer.

Sometime during 1851, Timothy, Hannah and Emma moved to Waterford, PA, to join Timothy’s brother, Hugh Henry Whitney.

In 1854, they bought a farm at Lake Pleasant, PA, where he had a sawmill and made lumber and ship timbers for sale in Erie.

They lived on the farm until 1865 when Timothy moved them back into Waterford for his children's education.

In 1870, he went into the grocery business, which he continued until just before he died. His business suffered two fires, in 1881 and 1895, and each time he rebuilt and continued.

Timothy Watts Whitney died on 29 Feb 1904, Waterford, PA, after a long illness. Timothy and Hannah are buried in Waterford Cemetery.

Children of Timothy Watts and Hannah Francis (Knight) Whitney:

i. Emma9 Whitney, b. Sep 1850, Nashua, NH, m. Anson H. Woodard; d. after 1920, Waterford, PA
ii. Frederick Putnam Whitney, b. 8 Aug 1853, Waterford, PA; m. Lucy Valentine.
iii. John Patten Whitney, b. Jul 1856, Venango Co., PA; d. 18 Mar 1933, Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada.
iv. George Manasion Whitney, b. 30 Oct 1857, Erie, PA; d. 14 Oct 1927, Wichita, KS.
