The greater part of his life was spent in Milford, Mass; moved to Brooklyn, N. Y., where he now resides, in Apr., 1882; received a common school education in the public schools of Milford; graduated from Bryant & Stratton Commercial college in 1866, since which time has been engaged in various mercantile pursuits, and at present a stockholder and closely identified with the E.P. Gleason Mfg. County, extensive manufacturers of gas and electric light supplies, 181 to 189 Mercer St., New York City, and 93 to 99 Commercial St., Brooklyn. During the last ten years of his living in Milford he was an active member of the Milford brass band; was made an Odd Fellow in Tisquantum Lodge No 46, Sept 4, 1871, at Milford; joined Milford Lodge No 692, Knights of Honor, in 1878; is a thirty-second degree Mason, and a member of Mecca Temple A.A.O.M.S. of New York City. In Mar., 1891, he was the recipient of a valuable past master's jewel from the brethren of Enterprise Lodge No. 228 of Masons of New York City; resided 132 1/2 Noble St., Brooklyn, New York.

Elias8 Whitney (George7, Jonathan6, Elias5, Elias4, Jonathan3, Benjamin2, John1), son of George7 and Louisa P. C. (Lincoln) Whitney, was born 21 Jan 1849, Milford, MA,[1] and died after 1885.

He married, 11 Sep 1872, Milford, MA, Mary Elizabeth Gleason, daughter of J. Marshal and Mary J. (Boston) Gleason.[2] She was born 21 Feb 1852, Milford, MA, and died after 1885.
