Family:Whitney, Joshua Smith (1842-1881)

Joshua Smith⁸ Whitney (Charles Fitch⁷, Thomas⁶, Benjamin⁵, Joseph⁴, Joseph³, Jonathan², John¹), son of Charles Fitch⁷ and Louisa (Kemp) Whitney, was born Oct 1842, and died 4 Feb 1881, VT, aged 39 years.

He married, 3 Jan 1870, Johnson, VT, Cornelia Ann Shattuck, daughter of Jeremiah and Sarah S. (Call) Shattuck.^[1] She was born 27 Sep 1849, Belvidere, VT, and died after 1880. She married secondly, 5 Oct 1884, Colebrook, NH (also recorded at Worcester, MA), Julius K. Robbins, b. ca. 1863, Johnson, VT, son of Simeon I. and Celana M. (-----) Robbins.^[2]

Civil War, from Wolcott, VT, enlisted 14 Jul 1862, as a Corporal, in Company D, Vermont 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment on 1 Sep 1862; promoted to Full Sergeant on 26 Dec 1863; promoted to Full Private on 25 Dec 1864; mustered out on 24 Jun 1865 (Roster of Vermont Volunteers During the War of the Rebellion 1861-66).

iii.	Raymond Whitney, b. ca. 1874, d. 16 Aug 1875, VT.
iv.	Raymond Whitney, b. ca. 1875, d. 31 Mar 1876, Columbia, VT.
