Family:Whitney, Isaiah (1765-1839)

Dr. Isaiah⁶ Whitney (Isaiah⁵, Isaiah⁴, Isaiah³, Thomas², John¹), son of Isaiah⁵ and Persis (Randall) Whitney, was born 13 Dec 1765, Stow, MA, and died 30 Nov 1839, Rindge, NH.

He married 20 Apr 1788, Stow, MA, Dorcas Whitman, daughter of Dr. Charles, of Stow. She was born 7 Apr 1767, and died 11 Jul 1844.

Dr. Isaiah Whitney studied medicine with Dr. Charles Whitman, of Stow, who was surgeon in the Revolutionary war, and subsequently was married to his daughter. They moved to Rindge, NH, in 1790, where he ever after resided. He was much respected as a citizen, and as a skillful and conscientious physician. He was appointed postmaster, 15 Apr 1830, and died while holding the office. Isaiah Whitney and his brother Jonah, a blacksmith, lived on the old farm. Jonah sold out, left shop, and set up in the center of the town, two miles away, and finally deeded one half of the farm to his son Cyrus, who made certain payments to Amos and Isaiah, and agreed to support his father the remainder of his life, when he was to have the other half of the farm of 110 acres. Mrs. Whitney was drowned near Burlington, Vermont, by the upsetting of a stage coach in which she was journeying. She fell into the river near the highway. He resided Rindge, NH.

John Dunckler, of Philadelphia, PA; Harriett J., b. 1817; m. Leonard Johnonnett, of Burlington, NH; Lemuel W., b. 30 Apr 1821; m. Susan Sanders and Carrie E. Hemmingyay; resided Burlington, NH.

iii.	Charles W. Whitney, b. 15 Nov 1791; m. Mary Griffin.
iv.	Henry Whitney, b. 26 Oct 1794; m. Mary Coldin.
v.	Felicia Whitney, b. 25 May 1796; m. Samuel Nichols, of Burlington. Ch.: Charles and Samuel; resided NJ. She d. 1869
vi.	Isaiah7 Whitney, b. 25 Jan 1799; m. Henrietta A. Nickerson, Sarah L. Small, and Mrs. Hannah E. Crosby.
vii.	Dorcus Whitney, b. 25 Jan 1799; m. 6 Dec 1822, Henry Hubbard; his second wife. He d. s. p. in Shrewsbury, MA.
viii.	Stephen Whitney, b. 19 Dec 1800; m. Lovilla Goldin.
ix.	Sophronia Whitney, b. 18 Aug 1803; m. 28 Sep 1844, Joseph Jones. She d. 10 Jan 1872, s. p. He m.(1) her sister.
x.	Anna Whitney, b. 17 Oct 1805; d. 10 Feb 1838.
