John5 Whitney (Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1), son of Abraham4 and Anne (Plumb) Whitney, was born 17 May 1764, Norwalk, CT, and died Jul 1813, Norwalk, CT.

He married, 5 Feb 1791, Norwalk, CT, Ann Fox, parentage unknown. She was born May 1765, Norwalk, CT, and died 14 Jul 1858, Brooklyn, NY.

Phoenix says the following:

John Whitney, b. in Pudding Lane, Norwalk, Conn., 17 May 1764; a nail-maker and farmer; married in Norwalk, 5 Feb. 1791, Ann Fox, who was born at Wilton, in Norwalk, -- May 1765, "the year in which the meeting-house was built." They settled in Norwalk, where, on a very hot day in July 1813, he went to repair a field-gate near Old Well, now South Norwalk, and was so affected by the heat as to cause his sudden death. He was buried in St. Paul's (Episcopal) Churchyard. She died at the house of her grandson, John William Hobart, 224 (now 296) Livingston Street, Brooklyn, N.Y., 14 July 1858, aged 93 years and 2 months, and was buried, 16 July 1858, in lot 10658, section 93, Leafy Path, Greenwood Cemetery.

iv. Charlotte Whitney, b. 11 Mar 1795, Norwalk, CT; m. Benjamin King Hobart, as his third wife.
v. Elizabeth Ann Whitney, b. 18 May 1797, Norwalk, CT; m. Joseph Clark.
vi. Alfred Whitney, b. 31 Mar 1800, Norwalk, CT; m.(1) Rebecca Mayhew; m.(2) Naomi Smith Gray.
vii. Esther Whitney, b. 1 Apr 1803, Norwalk, CT; m. Thomas Watlington.
viii. Caroline Whitney, b. about 1804, Norwalk, CT; m. Charles Randolph Gibbons, as his first wife.
ix. John Whitney, b. 9 Nov 1806, Norwalk, CT; m. Ruth Hutchinson.
x. Richard Whitney, b. 1808, Norwalk, CT; was living at Albany, N. Y., in 1829; went to New York in 1830, and while at the house of his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ann (Whitney) Clark, in Wooster Street, sickened and died, aged 22 years. He was buried near his father, in St Paul's Churchyard, Norwalk.
