There are three large Whitney families in the U.S.A., descended from:

John¹ Whitney of Watertown, MA, 1635;

Henry¹ Whitney of Southold, Huntington, and Jamaica, LI, NY, 1637;

Samuel¹ Whitney of Bermuda (ca. 1615 - 1674).

There are many other Whitney families in England, Ireland, the U.S.A., and
elsewhere whose connections to these large family groups are unknown.
