Jump to navigationJump to searchNathaniel Ruggles6 Whitney (Simon5, Daniel4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), born 19 Mar 1759; married Abigail Frotheringham; born 24 May 1760. He was born in Watertown in 1759, and in early life was a teacher, afterward a trader and farmer. For several years he was justice of the peace, town clerk and selectman. During the Revolutionary war he was in the Watertown company commanded by Capt. Brooks, He died 17 Dec 1833; resided Watertown, Massachusetts.
Children of Nathaniel Ruggles6 Whitney:
i. Nathaniel R.7 Whitney, born 27 May 1782;married Sally Stone. ii. Polly (or Martha) Whitney, born 10 Feb 1784; married ----- Shelton. iii. James B. Whitney, born 24 Mar 1788; died bef 1833. iv. Francis Whitney, born 29 Jun 1788. A Francis Whitney whom I have been unable to place, but probably this one, married Mary ----- and resided in Natick, Massachusetts. Their child, Frances, died there Apr. 30, 1819, aged eight months, and was interred in the South Natick grave yard. Francis name is not found, however, on the Natick town or church records or tax lists. v. Hannah Whitney, born 5 Jul 1791; married 12 Mar 1815, pub. Joseph Frothingham Tafts, born 19 Jul 1790. He was a tanner and agent for various trusts. She died 15 Aug 1872. He died 17 Sep 1854; resided Cambridge, Massachusetts - Ch.: James B., born 14 Jan 1817; Joseph F., born 11 Nov 1819; Henry, born 5 Oct 1822; George F., born Oct. 19, 1825; Alfred, born 18 Aug 1829.
vi. George C. Whitney, born 18 Aug 1793. vii. William Whitney, born 20 Oct 1795. viii. Simon Whitney, born 30 Oct 1797; married Mary Walker. ix. John Whitney, born 10 Oct 1800.
