Family:Whitney, Luke (1798-1841)
Luke6 Whitney (John5, James4, Joseph3, Jonathan2, John1), born Fitzwilliam, New Hampshire, 25 Dec 1798; married 10 Sep 1835, Louisa White; born 12 Oct 1806; died 21 Jul 1886.
Luke Whitney had no other opportunities for obtaining an education than the common schools of his native town, but such time as could be given to that purpose was faithfully improved. Although a good farmer he did not devote all of his time to that business, but became quite a large dealer in horses, buying them in Canada and taking them to Boston for sale. It was on one of these trips to Boston that he contracted the disease of smallpox, from the effects of which he died. He was a farmer. He died 12 Jul 1841; resided Fitzwilliam and Troy, New Hampshire.

ii. Charles O.7 Whitney, born 4 May 1838; married Francis F. Bent. 3062. i Ann Eliza, born 15 Mar 1837; married 27 Nov 1862, Goodhue Tenney; (adopted) Flora Belle, born 19 Aug 1872. 3062 1/2. iii. Francis Luke, born 16 Mar 1840; was a soldier in the Union army in the war of the rebellion, and died of wounds received at the battle of Cold Harbor, 16 Jun 1864.
