Edmund6 Whitney (Isaac5, Isaac4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Isaac5 and Mary (Crockett) Whitney, was born 4 May 1774, Gorham, ME,[1] and died 25 May 1853, Gorham, ME.

He married 28 Jan 1803, Gorham, ME, Martha "Patty" Meserve "of Scarboro". She was born Mar 1783, ME and died 21 Jun 1853, Gorham, ME.

He resided Gorham, ME.

The History of Gorham, Maine says:

Edmund Whitney, son of Isaac, lived in the north part of the town. He married Martha Meserve of Scarborough. Children:

  • Susan, b. Jan. 23, 1804, Lewis Higgins of Standish, Mar. 25, 1828; d. in Manchester, N. H., Mar. 9, 1879.
  • Freeman, b. May 21, 1806, m. Lydia A. Meserve, 1834. One child: Anna Maria, b. Mar. 21, 1837, m. Daniel Johnson, Feb. 2, 1854. Freeman Whitney d. July 19, 1855, and his wife, Aug. 20, 1869.
  • Levisa A., b. Aug. 15, 1810, m. Jonathan S. Files, p. Feb. 15, 1835.
  • Merrill, b. Feb. 25, 1816, m. Zebia A. Kollock. One son, Alonzo M., b. in Lowell, Mass., July 18, 1845, enlisted from Gorham in 1862, in 16th Me. Vols., and was killed at Fredericksburg, Va. Mr. Whitney d. in Saco, Jan. 24, 1888.
  • Robie, b. Feb. 16, 1818, m. Mary J. Hall, Sept. 1, 1844. Ch: Eugene S., b. Feb. 2, 1852, m. Nellie Stearns of Amoskeag, N. H.; Adelaide J., b. Sept. 28, 1855, m. Albert Merrill of Manchester, N. H., Jan. 13, 1883; Frank L., b. Apr. 11, 1858, m. Cora Belle Whitney; Katie C., b. Feb. 17, 1867, d. Aug. 28, 1886. Mr. Whitney l'd in the north part of the town where his son Frank now l's. He d. at the house of his son in Manchester, N. H., Dec. 28, 1898; his wife d. Oct. 7, 1891.
  • Marshall, b. July 11, 1821, m. Sarah Gorden of Wayne. Ch: Ladora E., b. Sept. 16, 1853, m. Frederick E. Smith of Attleborough, Mass., June 29, 1882; Alston V., b. Oct. 2, 1858; Mary J., b. Jan. 20, 1862. Marshall Whitney d. July 18, 1884; Mrs. Whitney l's with her son.
  • Major M., b. Apr. 13, 1823, d. July 31, 1834.

Edmund Whitney died May 25, 1853, and his wife, June 21, 1853.

i. Susan7 Whitney, b. 23 Jan 1804; d. 9 Mar 1879, Manchester, NH; m. 25 Mar 1828, Lewis Higgins, son of Prince Higgins, b. 18 Jan 1803, Standish, ME, d. 11 Mar 1888, Manchester, NH. They had ten known children.
ii. Freeman Whitney, b. 21 May 1806, ME; m. Lydia A. Meserve.
iii. Levisa A. Whitney, b. 15 Aug 1810, Gorham, ME; d. 20 Mar 1877, Gorham, ME; "Louisa A." m. (int. 15 Feb 1835, Gorham, ME), Jonathan S. Files, b. 1811, d. 9 Oct 1890, Gorham, ME. They are both buried in the North Street Cemetery, Gorham, ME. They had two known children: John Wesley Files and Abra A. Files.
iv. Merrill Whitney, b. 25 Feb 1816; m. Zebia A. Kollock.
v. Robie Whitney, b. 16 Feb 1818, ME; m. Mary Jane Hall.
vi. Marshall Whitney, b. 11 Jul 1821, ME; m. Sarah Gorden.
vii. Major M. Whitney, b. 13 Apr 1823, d. 31 Jul 1834.
