Joseph married Mary Hastings, daughter of Samuel Hastings and Bethia Holloway, 26 Oct 1749 at Newton, MA; first husband; m. Anna Palmer say 1768; guess by RLW; d. at Lima, NY.
Mary Hastings was born in 1718. She was born on 16 Dec 1725 at Watertown, MA.

i. Abigail Whitney6; b. 18 Dec 1749 at Newton, MA. ii. Martha Whitney, b. 31 May 1752 at Newton, MA. iii. Anne Whitney, b. 10 Feb 1755 at Newton, MA; Marriage banns for she and Joshua Spear were published 13 Feb 1780 at Newton, MA. - She was also known as Ann Whitney.
iv. Samuel Whitney, b. 7 Aug 1758 at Newton, MA; m. Mary Whitney, daughter of Joshua Whitney and Mary Clarke, 24 Jun 1778 at Worcester, MA; d. 1 Jun 1831 at age 72. v. Lois Whitney, b. 5 Sep 1761 at Dorchester, MA.
Anna Palmer was born say 1740; guess by RLW.

i. Edward Whitney, b. say 1770; guess by RLW. Possibly identical to Edward Whitney of Falmouth/Portland, ME, who m. 1788, Martha Moody. ii. Mary Whitney6, b. say 1772; guess by RLW; m. (--?--) Guerney. iii. Content Whitney, b. say 1774; guess by RLW; m. (--?--) Fuller. According to my grandmother Kate (COLE) Whitney's records, Mary and Content were the daughters of Anna Palmer from her first marriage and not from her marriage to Joseph Whitney. Kate (COLE) Whitney received her information from Joseph Whitney, son of Palmer Whitney who was the son of this Joseph. Kate (COLE) Whitney writes about Joseph: "Married 2nd a widow with two daughters (Mrs. Gurney and Mrs. Content Fuller)."
iv. Palmer Whitney, b. 11 May 1776 at Warwick, MA; b. 6 Oct 1777; d. 6 Oct 1777 at Warwick, MA, at age 1; aged 1 year 4 months 25 days; d. 1 Feb 1778 at Warwick, MA, at age 1. v. Palmer Whitney, b. 5 Mar 1778 at Warwick, MA; b. 12 Jul 1779 at Warwick, MA; Marriage banns for he and Judith Barber were published 14 Apr 1798 at Warwick, MA; "both of Warwick;" m. Judith Barber 10 May 1798 at Warwick, MA; "both of Warwick;" d. 26 Jun 1854 at Riley, IL, at age 76. - He lived at Java Village, NY. Palmer Whitney's wife's name is Judah not Judith. Documentation from Barber Family Records as well as her tombstone which is in the Barber Family Cemetery in a field southwest of Riley, IL. Both she and Palmer are buried there.
