17794 I. William Edward Whitney, b. at Corning, N. Y., 20 Sept. 1846; died at Whitneyville, Penn., 10 Sept. 1848, and was buried in Whitneyville Cemetery.
17795 II. Mary Whitney, b. at Whitneyville, Penn., 2 July 1848; married there, 26 Ap. 1869, by Rev. Albert Stone, Baptist, to Abram Tipple, a farmer, son of Elias and Hannah (Kingsbury) Tipple, of the same place. He was born at Charleston, Penn., 14 July 1846. They settled at Whitneyville, and were living there in May 1876. 20191
17796 III. Frank Whitney, b. at Whitneyville, Penn., 31 Aug. 1850; a farmer; married at Whitneyville, 18 May 1872, by Rev. G. S. Transue, Methodist Episcopal, to Adeline Schieffelin, who was born at Charleston, Penn., 31 Dec. 1850, dau. of Alfred and Catharine (Ferry) Schieffelin, g. dau. of Jacob Schieffelin, g. g. dau. of Jacob and Hannah (Lawrence) Schieffelin, of New York, and g. g. g. dau. of Jacob and Regina Margaretta Kraften (Ritschaurin) Schieffelin, who came from Germany to America in 1735.1 They settled at Whitneyville, and were living there in May 1876. He is a sergeant in the 12th Reg. of Penn. Militia. 20192
17797 IV. Fanny Whitney, b. at Whitneyville, Penn., 18 June 1853; married there, 20 Jan.1872, by Rev. G. S. Transue, Methodist Episcopal, to Otis Lee Atherton, son of Carlisle and Sarah (Young) Atherton, of Charleston, Penn., where he was born 21 Nov. 1848. They settled at Whitneyville, and were living there in May 1876. He enlisted, 18 Feb. 1864, in Co. A, 187th Reg. of Penn. Vol. Infantry; and was discharged at West Philadelphia, Penn., 6 June 1865. While he was acting as a sharp-shooter in the battle of Spottsylvania, 18 June 1864, one of his eyes was destroyed by a bullet from the enemy. He was first-lieutenant of Co. F, 12th Reg. of Penn. Militia, in 1876. 20193
