2714 IV. Walter Gates Howard, b. at St. Albans, Vt., 5 Ap. 1823; a farmer; moved in 1845 to Pierrepont, N. Y., where he married, 12 Sept 1848, Eunice Taylor, dau. of Peter and Sarah (Simmons) Taylor, of Peru, N. Y. They lived at Pierrepont (Crary's Mills post-office), in June 1874. 7917

2715 I. Alvira Electa Drusilla Gates, b. at Perry, N. Y., 5 Nov. 1816; married at Ellington, N. Y., 13 Sept 1837, by Rev. Harvey Frink, Baptist, to John Chamberlin Cody1 (a dentist, goldsmith, and dealer in clocks, watches, jewelry, etc.), son of Nathan and Rhoda (Wakefield) Cody,2 of Webster, Mass., where he was born, 11 May 1811. They dwelt in Poland, N. Y., for seven years; in Ellington, four years; in West Randolph, N. Y., four years; in Ellington again, seventeen years; and, in 1869, moved to Spring, Penn., where they were living in June 1874. 7923
2716 II. Rollin Cone Gates, b. at Perry, N. Y., 16 March 1818; a farmer; married at Tunungwant, in Bradford, Penn., 18 Sept. 1848, Jane Phillips, dau. of Daniel and Polly (Lafferty) Phillips, of Tunungwant, formerly of Freedom, N. Y., where she was born, 18 Sept. 18--. They settled at Ellington, N. Y., where she died, 25 May 1868, and was buried. He was married (2d), 10 March 1869, at Ellington, by Rev. R. D. Spencer, Christian, to Mary Stevens, dau. of Cyrus and Flevaline (Manly) Stevens, 7927
  1 His first marriage was, 6 Nov. 1834, with Hannah Rice Whitney, of Upton, Mass., who deserted him after a few months. Her sister, Mary Whitney, married Joel Whitney, of Upton, Mass.
