Halifax was created out of Plympton, Middleborough, and Pembroke, in 1734. Land was obtained from Bridgewater in 1824, and Plympton in 1831. Territory was ceded to East Bridgewater in 1857. Its boundary with Plympton was adjusted in 1863.
