Emmett T. Whitney (John Ball), son of John Ball and Susan M. (Titus) Whitney), was born 25 Sep 1842, Rochester, NY, and died 18 Feb 1920, Saint Ignace, Mackinac Co., MI. He was buried in Saint Ignace Township Cemetery, Saint Ignace, MI.[1]
He married firstly, 4 Jul 1867, Lake Co., OH, Isabelle C. Wood. She was born 1848, Madison, OH, and died 21 Nov 1890, Perry, OH. She was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Painesville, OH.[2]
He "of Cleveland, O." "sailor" married secondly, 1 Apr 1892, Traverse City, MI, Belle (Hallett) Towne "of Grand Traverse Co." "housewife", daughter of Marshall and Alice Olyette (Wyckoff) Hallett.[3] She was born 16 Jun 1870, Grand Traverse Co., MI, and died 7 Aug 1951, Auburn, WA. She applied for a divorce 27 Dec 1897, for non-support. She had married firstly, 28 Jul 1890, Percy William Towne. She married thirdly, 11 Jul 1905, Clark Co., WA, Willard Elsworth Emmons.
Emmett served in the Civil War in Co. A, 128th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, as a guard on Johnson Island, a Civil War POW camp on Lake Erie in Ohio. In later years he listed his occupation as "sailor", and he captained schooners on Lake Erie.

In 1880, he said his father was born in NY, but in 1900, 1910, and 1920, he said MA.
